Katie Cassidy joins Supernatural, Laura Vandervoort becomes "Supergirl"
Tom Welling won't be the only super thing going on in the seventh season of Smallville. Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort has bagged the much-sought-after role of Kara Zor-El--Supergirl to those who aren't familiar. As Clark's cousin, Kara will also be endowed with superpowers--including the ability to fly--but as a newbie to Earth, she will be become obsessed with pop culture. Supergirl is expected to debut in the upcoming season premiere of Smallville, where she will be "thawed out" after being in suspended animation for 16 years. Originally sent down to Earth to watch over Clark as his elder, she will wake up younger than her cousin as a result of her stasis.
Elsewhere, joining the cast of CW's Supernatural next season will be Katie Cassidy. The actress will come on board as Ruby, a demon hunter who befriends the duo of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles).
